EPC ratings and minimum energy efficiency
Current minimum E rating, upcoming C requirement, and how to track your EPC.
Current requirements
All rental properties must have an EPC rating of at least E. Properties rated F or G cannot legally be let unless you have a valid exemption registered on the PRS Exemptions Register.
Upcoming changes
The current minimum EPC rating for most domestic private rentals is E. Under the newer PRS MEES response, in-scope private rented homes must meet EPC C or equivalent by 1 October 2030, unless a valid exemption applies. Check the latest government guidance before committing to major works.
EPC lookup
Record the current EPC rating and expiry date manually from the government register. Automatic address-based lookup remains provider-gated and is not currently available.
Improvement recommendations
Tendmere shows EPC improvement recommendations from the certificate — suggested upgrades that could improve your rating. This helps you plan energy efficiency improvements and budget for them.
Tracking in Tendmere
EPCs are valid for 10 years. Tendmere tracks the expiry and reminds you to renew. Upload the certificate to your document vault for easy access.
